Conway High School Begins Redesign Effort
Conway High is engaged in a major redesign effort which will help our students see the relevance of their classes and the connections of those classes to their future goals. Along with this relevance, our students will have the opportunity to be engaged in important work that is directly related to the world in which we live.
National data supports the success of larger high schools organized into smaller learning communities. Our smaller learning community initiative reorganizes CHS into academies – small “schools” within the larger high school. All of our first-year students begin their journey in the Freshman Academy – a school within a school – in which students are part of houses (teams of students with teams of teachers). Freshmen will only move outside the Freshman Academy for one elective class during the school day.
Our 10th – 12th academies are organized around career themes – Business and Technology; Math, Science, and Engineering; Media, Arts, and Communications; and Professional Services. Advanced Placement, foreign languages, and advanced health and physical education classes will be offered as part of an academy of Interdisciplinary Studies. Students will be required to complete four required courses within their major as well as real-world work experience and/or community service for graduation recognition. All of our academies are built around the theme of Leadership – a quality that every profession is desperately searching for. Leadership developed will be part of all the work our students do here at Conway High School.
We are constantly seeking ways to increase learning opportunities for our students. Our faculty and staff is dedicated to providing a world-class education for the students in our community. We appreciate the continued support of our community and look forward to our common goal – that the Conway Tigers are the “best of the best.”
